Germanium Recovery Plant for Cutting Scrap and Fly Ash

A germanium recovery plant needs a route matched to its feed. We design and manufacture recovery and purification equipment for cutting and grinding scrap and germanium-bearing fly ash, with high-purity germanium dioxide as a target product. Explore the wider hydrometallurgy equipment scope, then discuss your material and product requirements.

Feed Materials: Cutting Scrap and Germanium-Bearing Fly Ash

Cutting and grinding scrap and germanium-bearing fly ash are separate feed categories. Their physical form, germanium content and impurity profile belong at the start of the equipment discussion. A proposal should identify the material being handled before defining the recovery stages.

For cutting scrap, describe the solid-liquid mixture as received and the origin of the residue. For fly ash, identify whether arsenic is present and provide the available germanium and impurity analysis. The absence of a reported impurity value should be kept separate from a confirmed arsenic-free feed.

Secondary residues from germanium cutting and grinding. Define the feed condition and the quantity basis for each batch.

Arsenic-free fly ash

Germanium-bearing ash with an arsenic-free feed description. The delivered reference uses a chlorination–rectification route.

Arsenic-bearing fly ash

A separate purification duty with a dedicated de-arsenic rectification section. Include the arsenic content in the feed information.

Related reading on germanium from fly ash addresses the material background. For an equipment proposal, send the analysis that describes your own feed rather than relying on a reference material name.

Product: High-Purity Germanium Dioxide

The product requirement defines the purification duty as well as the recovery objective. Specify whether germanium dioxide is the final product you intend to supply or an intermediate for a later operation. Include the required purity and any known impurity limits in the project discussion.

The delivered cutting and grinding scrap reference specifies 5N GeO2. That purity belongs to that project. The fly-ash references identify a germanium product, without a supplied purity value; their product description should not be extended to a 5N claim.

Two Process Routes for a Germanium Recovery Plant

The recovery sections are selected from the feed and intended product. The two reference routes below help compare equipment duties. They identify unit operations and project scales; they do not establish operating settings or a universal arrangement for all germanium-bearing material.

For background on how is germanium extracted, use the related technical article. The proposal discussion here concerns the equipment and supply boundary for your feed.

Cutting & grinding scrap

Alkaline Leaching Route for Scrap Feed

The reference includes alkaline leaching and washing, adsorption purification, filtration and press-drying, and vacuum drying. A leaching reactor addresses the leaching duty within that equipment package.

The delivered scale is 100–200 kg Ge per batch. Feed mass, germanium content and the product requirement should be identified separately when discussing another batch duty.

Germanium-bearing fly ash

Chlorination–Rectification Route for Fly Ash Feed

The arsenic-free fly-ash reference combines chlorination and separation, rectification, filtration, condensation recovery, hydrolysis and vacuum drying. The chlorination reactor and hydrolysis reactor pages cover those equipment sections.

The delivered fly-ash scale is 35 t/d. An arsenic-bearing feed adds a separate de-arsenic rectification section, so the purification scope needs its own review.

Equipment Set and Materials of Construction

Germanium recovery equipment is supplied as defined process sections or as an integrated package. The scrap and fly-ash references have separate equipment schedules and PLC control. Review the duty of each vessel and auxiliary together with the connections between the supplied sections.

Materials of construction are selected for your process media. The selection relates to the material each item handles, including the relevant feed and process streams. A generic equipment image does not establish a construction material for a particular duty.

Closed handling, transfer and condensation recovery are considered with the selected operations. Define the interfaces between the equipment, site services and downstream handling when the package is specified. The itemised equipment agreement remains the basis for what is supplied.

Delivered Germanium Purification Line Projects

Three delivered lines provide references across the feed categories. Each was supplied to a rare-metal processor in central China. The project details below are specific to those feeds and scopes.

Feed: cutting and grinding scrap.
Product: 5N GeO2 specified.
Scale: 100–200 kg Ge per batch.

Scope of Supply

The equipment package can cover process design, equipment manufacture, PLC control and installation guidance within the agreed scope. Define which recovery sections are supplied and the interfaces with equipment or services already on site.

For turnkey installations, the equipment agreement and site responsibilities should be read together. Scope of supply: civil works, utilities and local permits are by the client.

Installation and commissioning are covered by a separate service contract after the order. Review the installation guidance and service scope alongside the equipment list so that the responsibilities for site work are clear.

Arsenic-Bearing Germanium Feed?

Arsenic-bearing fly ash needs a purification scope that addresses arsenic with the germanium recovery duty. The delivered reference adds de-arsenic rectification after rectification and before hydrolysis. AsCl3 and FeCl3 separation is part of that case.

Explore the arsenic removal germanium capability and include your feed analysis. The arsenic-bearing and arsenic-free references are distinct equipment duties, rather than interchangeable configurations.

FAQ

Can one germanium recovery plant process both scrap and fly ash?

The two references use different operation sets. Compatibility needs a review of the actual feed and the equipment included. Describe both materials and their intended products before asking whether one package can serve them.

What germanium grade in the feed do you need to evaluate?

Send the available germanium grade together with the feed source, impurity information and quantity basis. No universal minimum grade is specified here. Identify unknown values so the discussion can establish what information is still required.

Which unit operations are in a fly ash germanium line?

The arsenic-free reference includes chlorination and separation, rectification, filtration, condensation recovery, hydrolysis and vacuum drying. The arsenic-bearing reference adds de-arsenic rectification. The required scope follows the feed.

Can you build a small lab unit before the full line?

A low-capacity unit can be built around the customer’s process. The unit is equipment supplied for that defined duty. A larger line is then addressed through an engineering and equipment proposal, rather than a general sample-testing service.
